Long Lake lies in a basin in the grasslands, 100 vertical metres lower than the grasslands hills on each side. The lake is 2 km long, but the chain of ponds in the basin is 4 km long. The upper end starts in a marshy area near the Community Grasslands Trail. The lower end is a hike in …Continue reading…

We have enjoyed the Six Mile area for quite a few years, orienteering, running, and hiking through the hills. In the middle of the area are 3 smaller lakes. The road starts just past the Tobiano turn-off. This gravel road is the old Trans Canada Highway which used to go up through the hills over to the Tunwka Road and …Continue reading…
The Westsyde Bench trail starts in Batchelor Heights and follows the benchlands above Westsyde all the way to Deep Lake. Before the Batchelor Subdivision was built, we used to follow single and double track routes from the Lac du Bois Road, but with all the new building in the area, we now have to use a different trailhead. We then wnet through the forest through …Continue reading…

This is a low-key hike, but a pleasant one nonetheless. If you are looking for additional distance, you can climb to the lookout or hike the Forestry Capital Trail (a separate post) over to McQueen Lake. To get to Isobel Lake, take the Lac Du Bois Road, then as you near the north end of McQueen Lake, take the fork …Continue reading…
