There is a very large area of green space between the Trans Canada Highway and Kamloops Lake, bounded on the west by Cherry Bluffs and on the east by Afton and Weyerhauser properties.   Without crossing fencelines, there is really only good access route.   Drive west on the TCH and before the Greenstone turn-off, watch for Abbey Road.   Turn onto this road and drive to the end (staying left).   Park at the gate and then follow the gas line road for 1.3 km.   At this point the road starts to descend down to the lower bench.   On your right, though, is a side road that goes up between two hills to a pass.   From this pass, 4 ridges can be climbed to explore and enjoy the view.   The road also descends north to Saltwort Pond, an alkali lake on the lower bench.

Kamloops Lake lies below.   Battle Bluff lies north, with the Dewdrop Range and Red Plateau above.

The climbs up to the ridges are all on grassy slopes.    The hilltops have a few trees, but are usually open, airy spots.   They invite exploration and photography.

There are private lands in this area and cattle grazing during some months, so close any gates, respect posted signage, cause no damage, and leave nothing but your footprints.
