Deep Lake Loop — 8 Comments

  1. I hiked the loop in the snow yesterday and someone had driven an ATV around half of the trail. Although it’s unlikely anyone visiting this site would do this, I wanted to make sure people understood that the trail is in a “no motorized vehicle” section of Lac du Bois park in case they weren’t aware.

  2. I was up there 4 time over the last week and a half and saw the same two people on quads ALL of those times, riding around in the grasslands! They’re accessing it from the strata development’s private road off the end of Ida Lane, but not parking vehciles there. Was able to follow them down as far as the actual end of Ida Lane (before the private strata road), but lost them as they were to fast. By the time I got my car, they were out of sight so I can only imagine that they either live on the lower part of Ida Lane or close by?? The fact that I’ve seen them every time I’ve been up there lately is disconcerting; these folks seem to think the grasslands park is their own private riding area. In fairness, there is a lack of signage letting people know this IS a park, and has NO motorized vehicle access. Anyways, that’s my rant. The grasslands are extremely fragile due to the lack of moisture they experience. It only takes one or two passes through an area to cause damage that reduces the productivity of this ecosystem and leaves visible scars for several years.

  3. 1) at least the atv’ers arnt leaveing plastic bags fulla dog shit all over the damn place and 2) those trails were all made by atv’s trucks and dirtbikes before they made it into a park. and the world didnt come to an end.. 3) but i agree now that it is closed to atv’s people should stay off it
