The trails on the UBC Enddowment Lands were well used before the area was turned into a park. In the mid-1970’s I explored, hiked, and ran the trails over a 6 year stint, then returned to walk them again in the 1990’s. Now that it is officially Pacific Spirit Regional Park, there are designated parking spots, trailhead signs, route signs, and groomed trails. Each trail is designated as multi-use or restricted to foot traffic only, but the trails still follow the same routes through the forest. The northern trails proceed north along the plateau to views overlooking Spanish Banks.
We will return to explore the southern end of the trails on our next trip. In a past life I had a job as a Nature Guide through the trails, departing from the Dunbar Community Center each day with a group to explore the trails of what is now Pacific Spirit Park.
