Tod Mountain

We hiked over the top of Tod Mountain today.   For most of the day it snowed, rained or sleeted, but the views were still excellent.   All of the wet meadows had mountain avens, mouse-eared chickweed, and emerging plantain lilies.   The drier meadows had larkspur, forget-me-nots, and the first indian paintbrush.    The two best routes are the Tod Lake route and the West Bowl loop.   To take in the peak of Tod Mountain too, this is 14 km loop, but well worth a day of hiking.

  1. We hiked up on the mountain again yesterday. Each week the mountain changes. Wildflower groups come and go in two week sequences. We saw many types, but the paintbrush was in its full glory. Fireweed hasn’t yet bloomed and arnica is still only in a few locations. We hiked the Westridge Trail for the first time and enjoyed the route and the scenery.
