  1. I think the yellow plant you mention as the earliest color may be Arabis holboellii with the rust Puccinia monoica on the upper leaves. I seems to be much more common this year than other years. It is very common to see pussy toes with a rust, but not Arabis so much.

    • As it turns out, I followed a lead from Wayne Robinson and did some research and came to the same conclusion. The yellow leaves or bracts are actually pseudo-flowers caused by the infection of the rust fungus. Here is an article on the process – Puccinia monoica
