This story has been taken down because it had some errors.   The most important of these is that the property is still a working ranch and is not open to the public without permission from the owner.   I used the sign at the gate and the article on the Nature Conservancy site to base the article, but additional research would have been a better choice.   My apologies for the errors and mistaken assumptions.
