We hiked all the main trails in the Assiniboine Mountain area and the Nub hike was our favorite.   The peak of the Nub at 9000 feet  stands out in the middle of the surrounding peaks with views to every part of the core area.

From Lake Magog, follow the main trail for 3.6km through the forest towards the Nublet.   On top of the ridge, turn right at the signed junction and start the climb above the trees.   The route is wide and easy to the Nublet, a great viewpoint above Cerulean and Sunburst Lakes.

Many people do not venture beyond the Nublet because the next part is a rough trail along/under a jagged ridge.   It is a trail, not a scramble, but it can be loose and traverses above a steep talus slope.   After a 400m rough section though, the trail opens up to a wide ridge to the summit.  

The barren summit has 360 degree views.   This is a place for lunch, photos, and identifying the valleys, lakes, and peaks of the area.

Getting to the top of any peak in the Rockies is a reward for hard work, but the Nub Trail is a comparatively easy one.   We were able to go to the top and down, take a circuit of the lakes, go for a swim and were back at camp with some afternoon time left, looking back up at the Nub:
