The Kamloops Performance Cycling Center has worked with ranchers and local agencies to develop over 50 km of trails in the Pineview and Ironmask Hills (more information). On the western side of the trails access has been available over the winter for fat bikes and snowshoeing. There is a small pullout off the Lac le Jeune Road for parking.
Signs have been hung at the trailhead and at junctions along the trails. The trails are designated in winter for bikes with fat tires and for snowshoeing, but not for hiking, since boots punch through the snow to make potholes. In this case, snowshoeing improves the trails for mountain biking. On my three times on these trails, the surface was firm, great for easy snowshoeing.
These trails provide a nice alternative for easy snowshoeing close to town over the winter months. Please respect signage, step aside for fat bikes on the trails and be sure to thank the KPCC for their efforts.
